Art Fest 2019 is now history, but the tremendous enthusiasm generated by this historic gathering lives on!
More than 40 renowned Wild Wings and Art Brand Studios artists converged on Lake City, Minnesota on August 1st and 2nd for a celebration and sale of the very best in nature art. Artists from California, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Nova Scotia gathered at Wild Wings’ headquarters to rekindle memories from the past and inspire plans and dreams for the future.
Festivities kicked off with a lakeside breakfast and business meeting on Thursday. Representatives from Wild Wings and Art Brand Studios shared recollections about the history of the industry, described new opportunities resulting from the union of these two powerhouse publishers, and looked forward to very promising futures working together with artists. In a show of hands, attending artists shared their respective tenures with the publishers, which ranged from less than one year to more than 40! The business meeting was followed by—you guessed it—FUN! Thursday afternoon was spent on a leisurely paddlewheel boat ride on beautiful Lake Pepin in perfect summertime weather. On Thursday evening, the publishers hosted more than 100 artists and guests for a mouth-watering meal of grilled tenderloin steak and all the fixins’ sourced fresh from the surrounding Minnesota farmlands.
On Friday, doors opened promptly at 10 am for an invitation-only VIP art show, followed by a public showing from noon to 8 pm. All artists had one or more original artworks on display. Each show attendee received a complimentary “Art Fest Passport” within which they collected autographs from exhibiting artists. It proved to be an extremely popular concept that generated a great deal of excitement while prompting personalized interactions between artists and attendees. Of course, the main attraction was the art itself. The show encompassed a broad range of easel art from watercolors to pastels to major oil paintings, in sizes ranging from miniature to massive. Dimensional art ranged from diminutive wood carvings to an awe-inspiring, larger-than-life monumental elk bronze.
Throughout the two-day event, a deep sense of pride and emotion filled the air. The Artist’s Choice Award was presented to Tom Moen and the People’s Choice Award to Brett Longley. And just as the doors were closing, one final announcement was made. Art Fest 2020 is on!
